Abstract
This document specifies conditions for determining the ultimate strength properties of continuous fiber-reinforced ceramic matrix composite tubes at room temperature on C-rings under diametric compression. The ultimate strength used refers to the strength obtained under a uniaxial monotonic compressive load of a C-ring specimen, and monotonic refers to a continuous non-stop test without reversal from test initiation to final failure. This method applies to all ceramic matrix composites with continuous fiber reinforcement, unidirectional (1D), bidirectional (2D) and multi-directional (xD, with x>2). NOTE Because the fiber architecture and specimen geometry factor of composite tubes are significantly different when compared to flat specimens, this document applies only to tubular geometries.
