The world is facing different types of catastrophes from natural disasters to pandemics. ISO has developed several standards (ISO 31000, ISO 22320, ISO 22322, ISO 45005) that can be used before, during and after such situations.
Background
Organizations, communities and countries face catastrophes from time to time. Pandemics (such as COVID-19, SARS and Ebola); extreme weather events (such as the cold snap in Texas, hurricanes, floods and drought); events caused by earth movements (such as earthquackes, tsunamis and active volcanoes) and man-caused catastrophes (such as the disasters in the nuclear power stations of Fukushima and Tchernobyl and the waves of refugees due to various conflicts) result in hundreds of thousands of people dying and millions existing in precarious conditions. The frequency and severity of catastrophes have been on the rise lately due to trends such as global warming.
Luckily, ISO has responded to this rise by providing guidance on the preparation for catastrophes before they occur, dealing with them when they happen and returning to normal in the aftermath. ISO standards provide guidance on dealing with risk (ISO 31000), management of incidents (ISO 22320), warning the public (ISO 22322) and working safely during the COVID-19 pandemic (ISO 45005). These standards will be the subject of a Webinar to be held in various regions of the developing world to raise awareness and inform people responsible for dealing with catastrophes in government and non-governmental organizations.
Objective
The objective of the webinar is to present the role of standards in facing catastrophes with a spe-cial focus on:
- Guidelines for the Management of Risk (ISO 31000)
- Guidelines for the Management of Incidents (ISO 22320)
- Guidelines for Warning the public (ISO 22322)
- Guidelines for Safe Working During COVID 19 (ISO/PAS 45005)
Format
Virtual sessions will be provided over 2 days by Dr. Anwar El-Tawil.
The sessions will be delivered in Arabic (first session) and in French (second session). An interactive format will be applied, where all participants are expected to contribute via polling questions and dedicated question and answer sessions.
